Health & Safety Specialist - Kisumu

Role Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Health & Safety Specialist to oversee safety management on-site at our Kisumu facility. This role demands ensuring strict adherence to national safety regulations and enhancing emergency readiness. You will be instrumental in hazard identification, safety audits, training delivery, and nurturing a safety-first mindset throughout the plant.

Key Duties

• Authorize, monitor, and document operations with increased risks; execute daily inspections for hazards and conduct monthly audits focusing on electrical and combustible materials;
• Lead safety incentive programs and disciplinary processes to boost employee safety engagement;
• Oversee the Emergency Response Team and maintain part-time safety officers; manage weekly checks on firefighting equipment and organize quarterly fire drills;
• Carry out detailed safety risk evaluations and audits to ensure compliance with all relevant national laws;
• Investigate incidents thoroughly, monitor corrective measures, and manage case closures effectively;
• Develop and provide onboarding safety education; use incident case discussions to promote awareness and reflection;
• Represent the facility in safety matters both internally and externally to establish a proactive safety culture.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Possession of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline;
• Certified with NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or an equivalent credential;
• Minimum of three years managing safety in settings such as manufacturing or industrial sectors;
• Well-versed in hazard recognition, risk assessment, accident prevention strategies, compliance obligations, and audit reporting;
• Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, capable of effectively influencing and instructing personnel across all organizational levels.
