About the Role

Stock Transportation Ltd., a subsidiary of National Express LLC, operates over 2,800 school buses serving more than 35 school districts across Ontario, Nova Scotia, and Alberta. Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee daily assignments, including scheduling drivers, bus assistants, and allocating vehicles to cover routes, field trips, and charter services.
  • Ensure timely completion of all driver and bus assistant tasks, both direct and indirect.
  • Communicate detailed driving instructions to drivers for successful route execution.
  • Provide routing assistance to drivers and allocate special service assignments as needed.
  • Recommend disciplinary measures for part-time staff violating company rules, up to suspension or termination.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, coordinate emergency response efforts, arrange mechanical repairs, and assign backup drivers and vehicles to maintain route service.
  • Inform district and customer service personnel of any route modifications, emergencies, accidents, breakdowns, or disruptions.
  • Maintain accurate route documentation, including contract requirements, school and student information, route changes, maps, vehicle details, and driver data, ensuring compliance with school board and provincial regulations.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance Supervisor to schedule vehicle servicing and repairs to avoid service interruptions.
  • Adhere strictly to dispatch standard operating procedures.
  • Address customer inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally, escalating unresolved issues to management when necessary.
  • Uphold the highest ethical standards and report suspicious or inappropriate behavior to supervisors or managers.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED requirement.
  • Previous experience in dispatching is preferred.
  • Familiarity with local geography for effective route planning.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills to manage competing demands effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact professionally in fast-paced or high-pressure situations, including interpersonal and telephone communication.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret customer instructions and documentation.
  • Capability to work cooperatively and follow instructions.
  • Comfort working independently and managing workload in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in using two-way and emergency radio communications.
  • Experience with office equipment such as fax machines, scanners, copiers, zip drives, and telephone systems.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office applications and computerized routing software.
  • Ability to read and interpret street and road maps.
  • Organizational skills to maintain accurate dispatch and routing records.
  • Bilingual abilities considered an asset.
