Food Counter Attendant

Role overview

This is a permanent, full-time food counter attendant position based in Duncan, British Columbia. The job is carried out on-site and requires 40 hours of work each week. English is the working language for the role.

Education and experience

No degree, certificate, or diploma is required. Prior experience is not necessary, as training will be provided.

Key duties

• Set up serving areas and tables by delivering clean dishes, flatware, and other service items.
• Replace linen and keep service areas stocked and organized.
• Clean and disinfect dishwashing equipment, carts, waste disposal units, and similar items.
• Clear tables and return trays, chairs, and other items to a clean state.
• Load buspans and trays, operate dishwashers, and wash dishes, glassware, and utensils by hand when needed.
• Store cleaned dishes properly and replenish condiments and other supplies.
• Prepare take-out orders, portion and wrap food, and heat or finish basic menu items.
• Serve guests at counters or buffet stations and take customer orders.
• Keep food usage records and restock refrigerators and salad bars.
• Use manual and powered equipment to clean, peel, slice, and trim food ingredients.
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness, including work surfaces, cupboards, storage areas, appliances, and equipment.
• Handle cleaning chemicals safely and receive, unpack, and store supplies in appropriate areas.
• Remove garbage, sharpen knives, and clean floors by sweeping, mopping, washing, and polishing.
• Wash, peel, and cut fruits and vegetables.

Tools and equipment used

Work may involve a conventional oven, deep fryer, electronic cash register, food dispensers, and grill equipment.

Working conditions

The role takes place in a busy, fast-moving setting and can involve heavy lifting, repetitive tasks, long periods of standing, and work under pressure. The maximum weight handled is up to 23 kg (50 lbs).

Available shifts include early morning, morning, daytime, evening, night, shift work, and weekend work.
