Financial Controller (Contract)

Position Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Financial Controller to lead the company's accounting operations and manage financial reporting. This contract role is fully remote, based in Colombia, and reports directly to the CFO. The incumbent will guide the transition from outsourced accounting services to an internally managed finance department, ensuring accuracy and compliance throughout all financial activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the General Ledger with full accountability, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and adherence to compliance standards.
• Maintain and organize the Chart of Accounts effectively.
• Manage the monthly closing process and financial reconciliations.
• Prepare detailed monthly financial statements and management reports.
• Analyze Profit & Loss statements and performance metrics across different business units.
• Supervise the Accounts Payable and Receivable functions including invoice reviews, payroll, vendor payments, and expense report validation.
• Lead and mentor the bookkeeping team, providing direction and oversight.
• Monitor cash flow and execute bank reconciliations accurately.
• Coordinate payroll tax, sales tax, and year-end tax reporting to maintain compliance.
• Ensure strict confidentiality and professional handling of sensitive financial data.

Candidate Profile and Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience as a Financial Controller or Senior Accountant with hands-on responsibility for the full General Ledger.
• Proficient in executing month-end close activities and financial reporting.
• Practical knowledge of QuickBooks accounting software is essential.
• Experience supervising accounting or bookkeeping teams.
• Thorough understanding of accounting principles and internal financial controls.
• High ethical standards and discretion in managing confidential financial information.
• Strong analytical thinking, organizational skills, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Ability to work independently in a remote work environment.
• Excellent command of English (C1/C2 level), including professional verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Experience managing transitions from outsourced to internal accounting functions or leading process improvements.
• Familiarity with project accounting tools such as BigTime or similar platforms.
• Background in sectors like professional services, construction, architecture, engineering, or design industries.
• Experience with luxury architecture, interior design, or upscale residential design companies is highly advantageous.
• Certification such as CPA or equivalent professional accounting accreditations are desirable.
