Job Overview
The Environmental Services Worker II plays a vital role in maintaining hospital cleanliness by performing cleaning, sanitizing, and upkeep of hospital areas to create a safe, hygienic, and inviting atmosphere for patients, staff, and visitors. The position involves tasks such as floor maintenance, waste disposal, linen handling, spill management, and general cleaning following hospital guidelines and infection control protocols.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Execute floor care duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, waxing, and shampooing to ensure cleanliness and safety of varied floor surfaces.
- Collect and dispose of waste properly, including hazardous and infectious materials, adhering strictly to hospital and regulatory standards.
- Manage soiled linens through proper handling, replacement, and storage procedures.
- Sanitize patient rooms, restrooms, corridors, offices, and shared spaces while complying with infection prevention measures.
- Respond promptly to spills and contamination events to perform efficient cleaning and disinfection following safety protocols.
- Relocate furniture, mats, and equipment as necessary to facilitate cleaning, maintenance, or departmental moves.
- Maintain and monitor cleaning supply inventories to ensure cost-effective usage and safekeeping of materials.
- Report maintenance or repair issues to supervisors or facility management for timely action.
- Keep detailed cleaning logs and accurately document completed activities related to environmental service tasks.
- Fulfill additional duties as assigned and maintain consistent attendance while complying with organizational policies and standards.
Qualifications and Experience
- Possess 1 to 3 years of experience within environmental services, custodial roles, housekeeping, or hospital facility maintenance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understand common cleaning protocols, chemical usage, and floor care methodologies.
- Demonstrate ability to safely manage biohazardous and infectious waste in line with infection control practices.
- Experience in operating and maintaining cleaning equipment correctly.
- Strong attention to detail and effective adherence to cleaning schedules.
- Familiarity with hospital policies, safety regulations, and compliance standards pertinent to environmental services.
- Capable of independent work and collaboration within fast-paced healthcare environments.
- Effective communication skills enabling courteous interactions with patients, staff, and visitors.
Preferred Certifications
- Certifications related to Environmental Services or Healthcare Cleaning such as CHEST or CHESP are favored.
