Role Overview
This position is ideal for an engineering manager who desires to lead engineering teams while staying technically engaged in software development processes. The candidate will oversee a portfolio of essential applications and guide the engineers responsible for building and maintaining them.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and foster growth within a team of software engineers.
- Collaborate with product owners, architects, and engineering teams to translate business needs into prioritized, actionable technical goals.
- Ensure delivery of software that is scalable, reliable, and secure.
- Synchronize priorities and roadmap planning between technical and business teams.
- Establish and maintain consistent engineering and architectural standards.
- Partner with technical leads to enhance continuous integration and delivery pipelines, automated testing, infrastructure-as-code practices, and containerization strategies.
- Recruit and retain engineering talent across various geographic locations.
Candidate Qualifications
- Over 7 years of experience in software engineering, with expertise in developing scalable, resilient, and secure web applications.
- At least 5 years in a direct management role overseeing software engineering teams.
- Hands-on proficiency with both frontend and backend software development.
- Understanding of microservices architecture and cloud deployment models.
- Experience managing and delivering mission-critical software applications.
- Demonstrated success hiring, mentoring, motivating, and retaining engineers.
- Experience managing distributed or remote engineering teams.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, automated testing practices, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization technologies.

Compensation and Working Conditions
- Salary range: €80,000 to €85,000 annually.
- Bonus potential: 20% of salary.
- Non-contributory, age-based pension scheme averaging approximately 10% contribution.
- Location: Galway, Ireland.
- Work schedule: Currently about 25% in-office presence, with a planned shift to full-time office work anticipated by 2027, though no confirmed date is set.
- Interview process: Includes two technical interviews followed by a human resources interview.
