Electrical Engineer

Overview

The Electrical Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the dependable operation, integrity, and optimal performance of the plant's electrical assets. This position involves providing technical expertise and support related to maintenance, fault diagnosis, reliability enhancement, and ongoing optimization efforts for electrical equipment, with the ultimate goal of maximizing equipment uptime, operational efficiency, and safety compliance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Offer engineering guidance and support for electrical system maintenance, operations, and reliability initiatives.
• Track and evaluate electrical equipment performance metrics and suggest strategies to improve reliability and minimize downtime.
• Identify, diagnose, and resolve electrical faults, implementing effective corrective and preventive measures.
• Contribute to the execution of preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance practices.
• Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to troubleshoot failures and engage in efforts to boost system reliability.
• Provide specialized knowledge in handling high and medium voltage power infrastructures, protective relays, motor control systems, rectifier units, transformers, variable frequency drives (VFDs), motor control centers (MCCs), and electric arc furnace equipment.
• Ensure all electrical engineering operations meet required standards, safety protocols, and Arc Flash regulations.
• Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Reliability departments to drive continuous improvement in plant electrical performance and asset dependability.

Qualifications and Experience

• Possession of a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• At least 5 years of professional experience in heavy industry sectors such as smelting, mining, steel production, metals processing, or similar process-intensive industries.
• Practical, hands-on expertise with high and medium voltage electrical power systems, protective relaying, motor controls, transformers, rectifier systems, VFDs, MCCs, and electric arc furnace technologies.
• Thorough understanding of Arc Flash safety requirements and knowledge of relevant standards including NEC and NFPA 70.

Technical Skills and Competencies

• Strong command of reliability engineering techniques including Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Preventive Maintenance (PM), and Predictive Maintenance (PdM).
• Exceptional analytical abilities and proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving electrical problems.
• Familiarity with current electrical engineering standards and industry best practice guidelines.
• Proficient user of Microsoft Office applications and skilled in creating and managing engineering documentation.
• Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate well within multifunctional teams.
