Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced EHS Professional to join a leading biopharmaceutical company based in Athlone, Ireland. The organization is currently engaged in substantial development activities involving facilities, utilities, and equipment installations. The successful candidate will be responsible for embedding Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) principles into engineering projects and construction practices, ensuring full regulatory compliance, and driving ongoing improvements in health and safety procedures. Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure that construction activities, machinery usage, and company operations adhere to relevant EHS regulations, guidelines, and internal standards.

  • Maintain compliance with EHS legislation, including those enforced by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
  • Assist in preparing for and actively support regulatory inspections and audits.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain specific EHS programs, and provide assistance for other EHS initiatives as needed.
  • Lead thorough investigations of safety incidents and enforce corrective and preventive measures, managing these actions through the EHS safety portal.
  • Carry out construction safety audits and provide support during external inspections.
  • Compile and deliver management reports, including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and contribute to contractor forum discussions.
  • Provide targeted technical EHS training to project teams, engineering staff, operators, and laboratory personnel.
  • Advance a strong safety culture by facilitating awareness campaigns and conducting toolbox talks.
  • Maintain comprehensive EHS documentation such as risk assessments, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and change management records.
  • Support Project Supervisors Construction Stage (PSCS) duties to ensure client-side compliance.
  • Assist with W3 safety walkthroughs and Pre-Start-Up Safety Reviews (PSSRs).
  • Contribute to commissioning and qualification activities.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting capital projects, facility upgrades, and equipment installations with an emphasis on integrating EHS elements.
  • Proven capability in conducting Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs) and performing criticality assessments for new systems and equipment.
  • At least 10 years of experience in EHS roles within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, or chemical manufacturing environments, supporting both projects and operational functions.
  • Strong proficiency in construction safety practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent skills in reporting, communication, and documentation.
  • Experienced in performing and documenting EHS inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
