About the Role

The New York Post is a historic media company with a 224-year legacy, offering news, sports, entertainment, and pop culture content across multiple platforms including print, digital, video, audio, television, and commerce. The Editorial Page stands as a prominent opinion section delivering incisive commentary on critical local, national, and international issues with a distinctive sharp and bold voice.

We are seeking a quick-thinking and insightful Editorial Page Assistant Editor to join our Opinion team. This role involves daily creation of strong, unsigned editorial pieces that shape the paper's stance, as well as occasionally writing bylined opinion columns. Mastery of the Post’s characteristic style — intelligent, direct, skeptical of mainstream views, and willing to challenge all perspectives — is essential. The successful candidate will contribute across both print and digital media.

Responsibilities

• Produce timely and engaging unsigned editorials consistent with the Post's editorial voice under tight deadlines.
• Compose occasional bylined opinion articles on areas of personal expertise or broad interest.
• Provide on-camera opinion content as video media offerings evolve.
• Pitch fresh editorial ideas in response to breaking news or trends in politics, policy, and culture.
• Work collaboratively with editors to determine daily and strategic coverage plans.
• Stay well-informed across topics including New York City and state politics, national affairs, foreign policy, and cultural issues.
• Prepare and edit copy for digital platforms using CMS tools like WordPress, as well as for print publication.
• Enhance the reach of opinion content through compelling headlines and social media engagement strategies.
• Occasionally represent the editorial board publicly through interviews, panel discussions, or media appearances.

Requirements

• Minimum of three years’ experience in political commentary, editorial writing, or a related discipline.
• Strong understanding of New York political landscape as well as broader national political dynamics.
• Exceptional written communication skills, producing clear, persuasive copy under deadline pressure.
• Excellent editorial judgment and strong news sense.
• Ability to deliver on-camera commentary comfortably, ideally without a teleprompter.
• Proficiency with WordPress or similar content management systems.
• Knowledge of SEO best practices and social media strategies to maximize content impact.
• Keen ability to navigate narrative, logic, and tone, particularly aligned with the Post's distinctive voice.
• Ability to work autonomously and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative newsroom setting.

Additional Information

• This position requires on-site presence five days a week, Monday through Friday, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM EST.
• The salary range is $70,000 to $80,000 per year, with offers adjusted based on experience, skills, and other relevant factors.
