Position Overview
This role leads the Division of Staff Development and Training within the South Carolina Department of Corrections, overseeing a broad training program for more than 5,000 employees statewide. The director manages all aspects of staff development, certification, and compliance with federal, state, and agency standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the comprehensive design, execution, and assessment of statewide staff development and training initiatives for SCDC personnel.
- Direct daily operations of certification and recertification processes along with various development programs to ensure adherence to legislation and policies.
- Manage personnel, instructors, training sessions, accommodation and food services for trainees, facility maintenance, and security related to inmate workers.
- Lead agency-wide employee development efforts by leveraging organizational needs analyses, management feedback, employee input, and evaluation data to design and implement training curricula, testing, and instructor performance assessments.
- Engage daily with inmates as part of operational responsibilities.
- Successfully complete an eight-week basic training program specific to SCDC upon employment.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required as per State of South Carolina minimum criteria.
- At least ten years of experience managing staff development and training programs is required by SCDC standards.
- Preferred candidates have experience in corrections, law enforcement, or military staff development and training.
