The Sydney Boulevard Hotel near Sydney's CBD offers 275 guest rooms, 2 dining options, and 11 function rooms, focused on exceptional guest experiences and high operational standards.
Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Director of Engineering to join our team and support the General Manager. This role is primarily based at the Sydney Boulevard Hotel (0.8 FTE) and partially at the connected office building at 100 William St (0.2 FTE).
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all engineering, maintenance, and asset management to uphold hotel standards and guest satisfaction.
- Implement preventive maintenance and ensure compliance with fire, safety, and building regulations including AFSS.
- Manage contractors, capital projects, and routine repairs, ensuring adherence to company and manufacturer standards.
- Maintain comprehensive records for inspections, certifications, and maintenance in compliance with local requirements.
- Oversee energy, water, and waste management initiatives promoting sustainability and efficiency.
- Develop and control departmental budgets including CAPEX and repair forecasts.
- Monitor expenses via effective purchasing and inventory systems.
- Contribute to business planning and meet financial objectives.
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or compliance.
- Promote a positive, safe, and inclusive workplace culture.
- Manage workforce planning, staff performance evaluations, and training via Accor Academy.
- Enhance team engagement and continuous improvement through regular feedback and communication.
- Lead WHS, Emergency Planning, and ESG initiatives, ensuring compliance with legislation and company policies.
- Conduct risk assessments, audits, and contractor inductions to sustain safety and compliance.
- Participate in relevant committees and ensure employee readiness for emergencies.
- Drive hotel energy and water conservation programs aligned with Accor's eco-tourism standards.
- Collaborate across departments to minimize downtime affecting guest rooms and public spaces.
Qualifications
- At least 10 years of maintenance experience including minimum 4 years as Chief Engineer or similar in hotel, commercial, or high-density residential settings, managing teams of 8+.
- Trade qualification in electrical or mechanical fields, preferably supplemented by an engineering degree or related technical qualification.
- Strong knowledge of building systems including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, fire and safety systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Opera, HubOS, with capability to produce professional reports and project documentation.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Thorough understanding of labor laws, WHS standards, and employment visa requirements within Australia.
- Ability to oversee maintenance of the adjacent office building as part of the role.
