About the Role
At H&P, we consider our workforce to be our greatest asset. The Derrickman plays a vital role on the rig by managing the mud system and its related equipment, while also performing various manual labor duties across the rig site.
Key Responsibilities
- Uphold H&P core values and adhere strictly to safety standards.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to incoming Floorhands.
- Monitor performance of mud pumps, carry out maintenance, and replace expendable parts as necessary.
- Ensure proper lockout and tagging of mud system equipment during repair or isolation activities.
- Supervise the condition and perform basic analysis of drilling fluids in both active and reserve mud systems according to customer directions and service company input.
- Track pit fluid levels, manage fluid transfers within the rig mud system, maintain solids control and piping equipment, regulate tank valves and pumping apparatus, and observe mud flow from the well bore.
- Direct roughnecks and roustabouts during repairs and maintenance on mud system equipment.
- Report to the driller any changes in drilling fluid parameters such as volume fluctuations, flow rates, temperature changes, contamination, cuttings issues, abnormal flow properties, or leaks.
- Inventory chemicals and fluids needed for drilling fluid treatment and provide the list to the Operator representative.
- Report changes in status affecting pumping, solids removal, mud mixing, or cuttings handling equipment.
- Perform scheduled servicing of overhead equipment used for hoisting tubular products.
- Position oneself approximately 100 feet above ground during tripping operations to manage tubular racking within the mast.
- Inspect all rig equipment from the floor to the crown section visually, take corrective steps where needed, and immediately inform the driller of any repairs.
- Demonstrate full comprehension of rig well control equipment (BOPE) and operate it under the driller's instructions.
- Complete all assigned Workday trainings promptly.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and H&P-specific software applications.
- Strong teamwork capabilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to the H&P Way and core values including active caring, service attitude, innovation, teamwork, and integrity.
- Demonstrated commitment to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards and H&P’s C.A.R.E. safety processes, with a verifiable record of compliance.
- Adaptable and resourceful in problem solving.
- Strict compliance with all applicable H&P policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of local, regional, national, and Saudi-specific legislation related to drilling, HSE duties, reporting, and audits.
- Ability to work effectively within indigenous environments.
- A minimum of two years’ prior experience in the oil and gas sector is essential.
