Role Purpose
This position is accountable for dependable and efficient operation of the switchyard and power transformer areas through disciplined maintenance execution. The role is important for maintaining safety, environmental compliance, and sustainability while also supporting process improvements, innovation, digitalisation, and automation. It requires coordination with internal and external stakeholders to improve operational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
The role covers electrical maintenance leadership for BoP and CHP areas, including associated utilities and handling systems such as RO plant, sea intake, FGD, hydrogen plant, DM plant, conveyor belts, crusher house, stacker reclaimers, and related equipment.
It involves preparing and updating SOPs, JSAs, and SMPs so that procedures stay aligned with current operating practices and requirements. The incumbent will also support improvement initiatives across BoP, CHP, and related areas.
A major part of the job is planning and executing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance to reduce downtime and improve equipment life. The role also includes annual overhauls and outage maintenance, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, within budget, and with the assigned manpower.
The position requires root-cause troubleshooting of equipment failures and analysis of repeat breakdowns to improve reliability and avoid recurrence.
On the operational side, the role includes proactive inspection and testing to keep equipment within permitted limits, with recommendations for corrective actions where needed. It also requires reviewing the performance of business associates, certifying bills, and ensuring contractual compliance.
Repair and refurbishment of equipment in the associated areas is also part of the scope, along with effective use of SAP for maintenance tracking, spare-parts control, and timely closure of notifications.
In inventory and resource management, the role involves monitoring the condition and availability of BoP/CHP equipment such as service transformers, HT/LT switchgear, HT/LT motors, DC systems, DG sets, chimney lifts and lighting, stacker reclaimer electrical auxiliaries, and wagon tripler systems. It also includes support for spare inventory planning and development of critical indigenous spares.
Additional responsibilities include raising purchase requisitions for materials and services, coordinating with techno-commercial teams for procurement and contract finalisation, and preparing SES for completed services while tracking the payment cycle.
The role must also ensure compliance with legal and statutory requirements, including renewal of electrical licences and elevator certifications. It includes participation in mock drills, hazard mitigation, safety training, and strict adherence to safety protocols for people and equipment.
Digitalisation and automation are part of the role, including using digital systems to improve efficiency, analyse trends, and identify opportunities for process enhancement. The position is expected to introduce newer technologies and innovative ideas wherever practical.
