Role Overview

The Crossing Guard position is a part-time role during the school year, typically from September to June. Reporting to the Supervisor of School Crossing Guards, the individual will support safety by supervising school crossings near public or Catholic elementary schools. Key duties include assisting students to cross roads safely, managing traffic flow, and providing courteous responses to public and staff inquiries.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee safe crossings of elementary students at designated school crossings or intersections.
• Assist in maintaining orderly movement of vehicular traffic to ensure student safety.
• Deliver excellent customer service by responding politely to questions or concerns from the public and staff.
• Perform additional assigned duties as needed.

Candidate Profile

The ideal applicant demonstrates a strong safety awareness aligned with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, including the proper use of all safety equipment supplied. They possess keen alertness and the ability to manage vehicular flow at crossings while establishing positive, respectful interactions with students, parents, and colleagues. Dependability, punctuality, and the capacity to work independently for entire shifts are essential.

Essential Qualifications

• Possession of a recent, valid, and clean Police Record Check for the Vulnerable Sector.
• Sound judgement and the capability to calmly handle emergency situations.
• Physical ability to stand or walk continuously for up to four hours per day in varying weather conditions, with intervals of thirty minutes at a time.

Working Hours and Schedule

Shifts occur Monday to Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 4:10 p.m., ranging from two to eight shifts daily, with an average total of approximately 2.5 hours worked per day. Shift times may vary depending on the specific school crossing location and school schedules.

Compensation

The hourly wage for the position is set at $21.30.
