Job Overview
This role is responsible for rapid response during incidents, emergencies, and accidents at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and its vicinity. The Crew Commander provides fire fighting, rescue, and first aid services within mandated international and national aviation guidelines to protect life and property and ensure swift restoration of normal airport operations.
Primary Duties
- Lead the crash fire tender crew and act as Rescue Commander during aircraft emergencies, making critical decisions independently until the arrival of the Sub Commander.
- Mobilize ARFF (Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting) resources during watch tower controller duties for aircraft accidents, fires, and public health-related incidents, in harmony with the Aerodrome Emergency Plan and SOPs.
- Collaborate closely with Air Traffic Control, Incident Commander, Command Post, and Airport Operations Control Centre for effective incident resolution.
- Regularly inspect and ensure proper functioning of ARFF watch tower equipment and communication systems, maintaining serviceability records.
Interactions
External Stakeholders: Air Traffic Control, CISF, Emergency Medical Services, Airlines, Ground Handling Agencies, Maharashtra Fire & Emergency Services, DDMA Maharashtra, Refueling Agencies, RAXA, and other relevant partners.
Internal Coordination: Cross-functional collaboration with teams such as P&E, Airside and Landside Operations, Terminal Operations, Security, AOCC, IT, HR, EHS & Sustainability, and FMS.
Education and Qualifications
- Grade-I or Diploma in Aviation Fire or a Science graduate from a recognized university.
- Certification from JFO Course or equivalent from an aviation academy.
- Possession of a valid Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV) Driving License.
- Strong knowledge of ICAO documentation, DGCA CAR, and NBC regulations.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Effective communication and presentation skills.
Experience Requirements
- At least 6 years of firefighting experience, with a minimum of 3 years serving as a Lead Fire Fighter in airport aviation firefighting.
- Competence in radio telephony communications is mandatory.
