Position Overview

ALS Coal Technology invites applications for a full-time and casual Coal Quality Tester at its Riverview location. This entry-level role offers comprehensive training and the prospect of long-term engagement for successful candidates. The team works on assessing metallurgical and thermal coal using specialized apparatus such as pilot and small-scale coke ovens and a Boiler Simulator Furnace.

Work Schedule

This position requires working Monday to Friday in alternating shifts: from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM and from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely manage and process large samples of coal and coke.
  • Handle loading and unloading of material from ovens operating at high temperatures.
  • Conduct physical tests including crushing, sizing, and dividing of coal samples.
  • Record validated test data accurately and enter it into information systems.
  • Perform general workplace duties and report any safety incidents promptly.

  • No previous experience is necessary as full training will be provided.

  • Proficiency in basic numeracy, literacy, and computer usage.
  • Physical fitness to handle repetitive manual tasks in hot and dusty conditions.
