Role Overview
Serving as the operational backbone of One Health Studio, the Chief of Staff works closely with the Managing Director to ensure smooth functioning across the studio and its expanding portfolio. This hands-on role involves managing details, tracking progress, enforcing accountability among EIRs, coordinating logistics with partners and investors, and guaranteeing operational completeness.
As a specialized generalist focused on execution, this position transforms strategy into actionable steps and manages continuous operational cycles. Leveraging Alloy’s centralized resources such as Legal, Finance, HR, Marketing, Talent, and Operations, the Chief of Staff orchestrates support across functions, employing AI tools and external contractors as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee studio-wide operations by maintaining real-time trackers on milestones, challenges, EIR progress, and key stakeholder relationships; coordinate efforts with Alloy’s shared service teams.
- Provide operational support to portfolio companies during incubation including onboarding systems, facilitating research, and connecting founders with appropriate resources.
- Serve as the primary operational liaison for EIRs, assisting with navigating Alloy resources and reducing friction in building efforts.
- Manage relationships and follow-up communications with corporate partners, investors, academic collaborators, and service providers.
- Monitor contracts such as MOUs, EIR agreements, option agreements, and licensing deals, highlighting critical dates and milestones in partnership with Legal and Finance.
- Draft communications and prepare materials for investor updates, due diligence, and key meetings.
- Develop and refine operational systems including onboarding guides, reporting templates, and communication cadences, integrating AI tools to optimize workflows.
- Handle high-priority ad hoc projects such as research reports, competitive landscape analyses, regulatory filing coordination, and grant applications.
Candidate Profile
- Possess 5–7 years of professional experience in dynamic settings such as venture studios, venture capital, startup operations, consulting, investment banking, or corporate strategy.
- Exhibit strong systems thinking with the ability to translate strategic concepts into scalable execution and ensure consistent progress.
- Demonstrate high initiative by proactively identifying and resolving challenges without prompt.
- Collaborate closely and iteratively with managing directors, EIRs, and functional teams.
- Work independently in ambiguous contexts, confidently navigating complex scenarios.
- Adapt swiftly to diverse daily tasks ranging from drafting licensing documents to coordinating investor communications and EIR check-ins.
- Communicate clearly and succinctly in writing, maintaining exceptional quality standards.
- Show genuine enthusiasm for health, biotech, or venture ecosystems beyond the role itself.
- Be proficient with AI tools from the start, capable of coding and iterating at rapid pace using platforms such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and Terminal.
- Preferably reside in or be willing to relocate to either the Bay Area or Indianapolis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in design or product development with an aptitude for shaping user-centric solutions.
- Prior work at a venture studio, incubator, accelerator, or venture fund with exposure to founder support.
- Background in life sciences, health technology, or animal health sectors.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as FDA or USDA, or familiarity with contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs).
- Experience coordinating with academic partners or managing government grant programs.
Benefits and Culture
- Competitive compensation package inclusive of salary and equity opportunities.
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
- A remote-first work environment.
- Unlimited paid time off policy.
- A collaborative and entrepreneurial workplace grounded on a successful venture studio methodology.
- Opportunities to innovate, build, and scale revolutionary companies.
Company Values
- Boldness: Encouraging audacious thinking and challenging norms for continual progress.
- Action-Oriented: Prioritizing execution to generate data and advantages over perfectionism.
