About the Role
This position is located in Manassas, VA and requires full-time on-site work to meet the operational demands of the team. The role may also include evening or overnight shifts, with hours from 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM or 11:00 PM to 8:00 AM. The primary focus of the Associate Data Center Hardware Engineer is to maintain and enhance the reliability and performance of global data center infrastructure through hands-on technical tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out hardware repairs such as replacing defective drives, DIMMs, fans, power supplies, and other server or network components.
- Investigate and resolve escalated technical issues from contracted technicians using diagnostic tools, and escalate unresolved matters to senior engineers or relevant engineering teams.
- Install new SSDs and NVMe storage into existing server hardware.
- Perform fundamental troubleshooting of Linux operating systems and IPMI interfaces across server platforms.
- Support engineering teams in troubleshooting and fixing autobuild failures in Linux Kickstart environments, including handling straggler nodes.
- Troubleshoot physical network layer connectivity problems.
- Implement hardware installations and repairs beyond routine quarterly expansion projects.
- Monitor the Jira ticketing system actively, ensuring appropriate ticket management and resolution quality by contracted technicians.
- Participate in the onboarding process for new contracted data center technicians by training them in daily operational tasks.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to contracted technicians to improve service consistency and quality.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to support global data center operations.
Required Qualifications
- At least 1 year of experience working in a data center engineering role.
- Minimum of 1 year troubleshooting experience with Linux operating systems.
- At least 1 year of experience in server hardware troubleshooting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
- More than 2 years of experience in a data center engineering capacity.
- Over 2 years of Linux troubleshooting experience.
- More than 2 years of server hardware troubleshooting experience.
Additional Details
The salary range is from $74,000 to $122,000, with actual compensation determined by factors such as skill level, experience, certifications, and location-specific labor costs. The remuneration package may also include annual performance bonuses, equity, benefits, and other incentive plans.
