About Notum
Notum is a specialised Assigned Certifier practice located at 11 Merrion Square, Dublin 2, delivering independent Assigned and Design Certifier services in line with Statutory Instrument No. 9 of 2014 and the guidelines of the Code of Practice for Inspecting and Certifying Buildings and Works. Operating across residential, commercial, and public sectors throughout Ireland, Notum employs a structured, risk-based methodology to ensure BC(A)R compliance, fostering collaborative partnerships with design teams, contractors, and building control authorities to guarantee compliant and thoroughly documented project outcomes.
Role Overview
We are looking for an Assigned Certifier to join our energetic and growing team. This role suits a site-experienced professional who will independently oversee inspections and compliance responsibilities across an active and diverse project portfolio. The incumbent will enjoy autonomy on site, engaging directly with contractors while benefiting from the mentorship of experienced senior staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the preparation and coordination of BC(A)R compliance documentation, such as Commencement Notices, Certificates of Compliance, and Inspection Plans.
- Perform and document site inspections following agreed inspection schedules and the Code of Practice.
- Evaluate compliance submissions from contractors and subcontractors, including construction details, product datasheets, and related certificates.
- Engage independently with design teams, main contractors, and specialist consultants regarding compliance and certification matters.
- Maintain and update Inspection Plans and project records using Zetec and the Building Control Management System.
- Assist in preparing Certificates of Compliance upon project completion for submission to local building control authorities.
- Participate in BC(A)R Review Meetings and conduct milestone inspections as needed.
Candidate Requirements
- Ability to operate independently on site and manage contractor relationships with sound decision-making and minimal supervision.
- At least three years of post-qualification experience on Irish construction sites.
- Solid understanding of BC(A)R 2014 (SI No. 9 of 2014) regulations and the Assigned Certifier's responsibilities.
- Familiarity with Irish Building Regulations.
- Proficiency in interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong organisational skills with meticulous attention to compliance documentation and record-keeping.
- Comfortable using digital tools including Microsoft 365 and common construction digital record-keeping platforms.
- Registered member with RIAI, SCSI, Engineers Ireland, or an equivalent body, eligible to act as Assigned Certifier under SI No. 9 of 2014.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with residential apartments, mixed-use developments, hotels, leisure, or large commercial projects.
- Knowledge of Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB) compliance and airtightness testing protocols.
- Familiarity with Zutec or other Common Data Environments (CDE) and inspection recording software.
- Experience with the Building Control Management System (BCMS).
