AS400 / IBM i Architect / Platform Lead

Role overview

This position is for a senior AS400 / IBM i Architect / Platform Lead who will shape the strategy, architecture, and governance of the enterprise IBM i environment that supports critical business operations.

Key responsibilities

• Set and maintain standards for the IBM i platform, including reference architecture guidelines.
• Design resilient, enterprise-scale high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
• Guide modernization efforts and ensure smooth integration with other platforms and systems.
• Take ownership of security controls, compliance requirements, and audit preparedness.
• Manage capacity planning and tune performance for stable, efficient operations.
• Introduce automation practices to improve reliability and operational efficiency.
• Coordinate with vendors and monitor platform roadmaps to support long-term planning.
• Work closely with stakeholders and senior leadership on platform decisions and governance.
• Oversee the full lifecycle of the platform, from planning through ongoing support and improvement.

Required technical expertise

• Strong background in IBM i enterprise architecture.
• Experience with Power Systems design and related infrastructure.
• Hands-on knowledge of HA/DR planning and cyber-resilience approaches.
• Ability to implement automation frameworks in operational environments.
• Understanding of security, governance, and compliance standards.
• Experience connecting IBM i platforms with cloud and modern enterprise systems.

Experience

Candidates should have 9 to 15+ years of relevant experience.
