BJAK is developing a proactive intelligent assistant aimed at more than 5 billion daily users of basic applications such as email, notes, and task managers. The assistant is designed to integrate AI seamlessly into everyday workflows like conversations, errands, and organization with minimal user prompting. It focuses on reliability for extended workflows, maintaining persistent context, and task completion through complex multi-step reasoning and interaction with external tools while overcoming the challenges posed by non-deterministic AI models. The goal is to help users accomplish routine tasks more enjoyably and reduce task completion times by approximately 90%.

Role Overview

The Android Software Engineer will be responsible for delivering the Android client side experience where AI features are deeply embedded at the core of the product. This is a full production role involving the design and development of a performant, reliable, and user-friendly Android application that emphasizes the feel, behavior, and performance of AI on mobile devices.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain robust Android applications utilizing Kotlin.
• Integrate AI-driven capabilities including chat, vision, voice, and recommendation systems through backend APIs.
• Design and implement user experience patterns tailored for AI interactions featuring streaming data, retry mechanisms, and partial response handling.
• Optimize app performance including memory management, responsiveness, and efficient handling of AI-intensive workflows.
• Implement comprehensive analytics, logging systems, and feedback channels to facilitate AI performance monitoring and continuous iteration.
• Work collaboratively with backend developers and machine learning engineers to define API contracts and expected system behaviors.
• Ensure high standards of app stability, security, and scalability within production environments.

Candidate Profile and Experience

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in Android application development using Kotlin.
• Practical knowledge integrating AI functionalities leveraging large language models, computer vision, or speech recognition APIs.
• Proficiency with asynchronous programming constructs such as Coroutines and Flow.
• Experience working with REST or gRPC APIs along with structured data formats.
• Strong debugging capabilities and expertise in profiling for performance enhancement.
• Experience developing in environments where latency, partial failures, and unpredictable behavior are common.
• Familiarity with MLKit or lightweight on-device AI inference techniques.
• Past contributions to production Android applications available on Google Play Store.

• Ensure the application achieves optimal responsiveness, low latency, and efficient CPU and memory usage.
• Detect, monitor, and resolve production issues proactively with thorough root cause analysis.
