Role Summary
The AML/CTF Operations Team Leader will be accountable for in-depth monitoring and investigation of alerts and name screening activities. This includes reviewing escalated screening records to Level 2 and validating cases sent to the checker queue within the transaction monitoring system. The role demands leadership in driving team effectiveness and compliance, overseeing daily operations with strict adherence to AML regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed investigations on transaction monitoring alerts to detect unusual customer activities.
- Process escalated name screening cases at Level 2 and manage alerts within the checker queues.
- Follow up on information requests with branches and business units to ensure timely responses.
- Communicate critical findings that could affect the bank to management promptly.
- Provide precise reporting on key performance and risk indicators.
- Arrange backup support for team members to sustain operational continuity.
- Monitor the team's compliance with service level agreements, mitigating any risk appetite breaches.
- Organize regular training sessions to keep the team updated on the latest AML practices and regulatory requirements.
- Support the monitoring of annual team goals and assess overall performance against KPIs.
- Establish collaborative partnerships with various departments to enhance operational efficiency.
- Forge initiatives for ongoing enhancement of systems and workflows, aiming to cut costs and boost productivity.
- Adhere to all departmental policies, procedures, and standard operating guidelines.
- Assist in preparing timely and accurate departmental reports in line with bank standards.
- Ensure compliance with quality, health, safety, and environmental policies to maintain employee safety and service quality.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent qualification.
- Professional certification such as CAMS or a recognised equivalent.
- Between 4 to 6 years of relevant experience in compliance and anti-money laundering within the banking sector.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of AML/CTF processes, including payment and name screening along with KYC regulations.
- Proven experience managing teams.
- Skilled in investigative techniques and evidence gathering.
- Comprehensive business knowledge of financial products.
- Excellent organizational and time management capabilities.
- Advanced research proficiency, including use of online tools.
- Strong command of Microsoft Office and internet research systems.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English; Arabic proficiency preferred.
- Ability to make autonomous decisions and resolve complex problems.

- External: Correspondent banks, financial regulators such as FIU/QCB, and tax authorities including IRS.
