Opportunity Overview
Auckland Council is seeking an experienced security professional to join the CCTV and Access Control team within Corporate Property. This critical role involves maintaining the security and safety of Council buildings by overseeing CCTV and access control monitoring, responding promptly to alarm activations, and escalating issues to relevant parties.
The role includes preserving the integrity and security of CCTV footage and access data, providing a physical security presence, and conducting regular building inspections. Effective communication and relationship management with employees, contractors, security providers, and internal teams are essential to ensure that security incidents and risks are managed efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily operations within the CCTV Control Room.
- Continuously monitor CCTV, access control, and associated building security systems.
- React promptly to security and duress alarms, escalating incidents as necessary.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist with security investigations and produce accurate reports.
- Securely handle and store CCTV footage and access control data in compliance with legal requirements.
- Perform regular inspections of Auckland Council properties.
- Identify security risks, trends, and areas for improvement.
- Support reliability and maintenance of visitor management, intercom, license plate recognition, and other security technologies.
- Provide access and occupancy data to support building utilization analyses.
- Coordinate access control, especially during high-demand periods.
This position is safety-sensitive, where any impairment or failure in duty could pose significant risk to people or property.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate possesses comprehensive knowledge of building security systems including CCTV and access control, and practical experience managing operational security in complex, multi-site environments.
Excellent communication and listening skills are necessary, along with the ability to build trusted stakeholder relationships and maintain professionalism under pressure. Candidates must demonstrate sound judgment, prioritization capabilities, and proactive task completion.
Additional expectations include strong customer service orientation, ownership of responsibilities, confidence in Microsoft Excel and Word, and holding a valid New Zealand driver licence. Experience handling alarms, investigations, and customer-facing environments will be advantageous.
Qualifications & Experience
- A minimum of five years in operational security roles within large organizations spanning multiple sites.
- Expertise in CCTV, access control, and related security systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to make quick, sound decisions.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Proactive attitude and reliability in task completion.
- Professional demeanor and personal presentation standards.
- Competency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Valid New Zealand driver licence.
