XRay Technician

Job Overview

This role requires a registered technologist certified by ARDMS, preferably credentialed in physics, vascular, and abdominal specialties, and maintaining Basic Life Support certification. Candidates must be prepared for occupational hazards including Category I exposure to bloodborne pathogens, chemical hazards, and potential radiation exposure.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic ultrasound exams following radiologist protocols under indirect supervision and assist with invasive biopsy procedures.
• Evaluate and accurately document ultrasound imaging results, effectively communicating findings to the radiologist.
• Operate imaging support technology such as transducers, multi-format cameras, printers, RIS, and PACS systems.
• Maintain inventory for procedural supplies and ensure ultrasound exam rooms are kept organized and safe.
• Provide patients with clear explanations about ultrasound procedures to reduce anxiety and respond to any patient questions.
• Handle RIS system functions including order entry and procedure charging accurately.
• Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills with patients and colleagues.
• Report any hazardous conditions or equipment issues immediately to supervisors.
• Participate in all safety training and adhere to safety responsibilities related to the department and specific job hazards.
• Ensure equipment is well-maintained and promptly report malfunctions.
• Maintain skills and competencies across all ultrasound procedures.
• Support other imaging department areas as needed when not performing ultrasound tasks.
• Treat all patients, families, visitors, and coworkers with respect and courtesy, fostering a professional hospital environment.
• Conduct high-level probe disinfection using Trophon systems.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, talk, listen, handle objects, and reach as part of normal work functions.
• Must have close vision capabilities with focus adjustment.
• Capacity to regularly lift/carry over 20 pounds and push/pull over 25 pounds.
• Ability to stand or walk for at least five hours per workday.
