About the Role
Corlann is seeking to appoint two permanent part-time Support Workers for the Spraoi Children's Respite Service in the West Region. These roles involve providing essential key-working support to children with a diverse range of needs including Autism, physical disabilities, complex medical conditions, and behavioural challenges. Support Workers will assist children aged 6 to 18 years by managing all aspects of personal care such as meal assistance and hygiene, tailored to the individual child's requirements. The role also focuses on facilitating the child's development through Individual Plans, encouraging participation in everyday community life through inclusive and creative approaches.
Location and Reporting
Initially based in Roscommon town, candidates should be prepared to transfer to other locations within the service area if required. Reporting lines include Senior Staff, Team Leader, Service Coordinator, and Area Manager.
Qualifications and Experience
- Applicants should have a wholesome general education background; holding a recognized qualification in intellectual disability, preferably a QQI Level 5 or higher, is advantageous.
- A minimum of six months' experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities is required, with experience managing challenging behaviours being preferred.
- Possession of a clean Class B manual driving licence is mandatory. Candidates may need to acquire a Class D1 licence, for which assistance is available.
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills are essential.
- Demonstrable flexibility, teamwork, communication abilities, enthusiasm for the role, and basic IT proficiency are important.
Working Conditions and Hours
The role involves working 60 hours per fortnight on a 7-day roster, which includes varied shifts like weekends, public holidays, split duties, night shifts, and sleepover duties. Flexibility in working hours is crucial to provide quality, personalised service delivery following the Corlann model based on Personal Outcome Measures.
Compensation and Benefits
The role offers a pro-rata salary aligned to the Department of Health Care Assistant scale starting at €34,881 with 11 increments up to €47,624 per annum, plus a long service increment after three years (€48,434 pro-rata). Additional payments apply for weekends, holidays, night and sleep-in duties. Annual leave entitlement is 23 days per year. Salary is based on a standard 39-hour work week, with potential incremental credit for verified public sector service.
Terms and Conditions
This is a permanent, part-time, pensionable position subject to a nine-month probation period. Employment may be terminated during probation if the employee proves unsuitable, with possible probation extension at the employer's discretion.
