Role Overview
The Shift Supervisor assists the Store Manager in managing daily store operations to ensure continuous, smooth service at the Thrift Store. When not overseeing operations, this role performs sales associate duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with customers and donors positively, professionally, and courteously.
- Safeguard the quality and integrity of all donated merchandise.
- Ensure accuracy in handling all customer transactions including cash and debit sales.
- Help achieve store financial goals by upholding excellent customer service standards.
- Manage store opening and closing procedures as needed, adhering to established protocols.
- Process donations by unloading, sorting, pricing, packing, and storing items.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of store inventory to respond to customer inquiries by phone or in person.
- Monitor store activity to maintain security standards.
- Handle merchandise safely and methodically, assist in rotating stock effectively.
- Support inventory control through receiving, sorting, pricing, and cycle counting under guidance.
- Contribute to store presentation by assisting with layout planning, creating appealing window and merchandise displays, and sustaining a neat environment.
- Replenish and remove stock from the sales floor as instructed by supervisors.
- Ensure proper sorting and processing of donations in line with quality guidelines.
- Perform routine maintenance such as tidying, restocking shelves, cleaning, sweeping, dusting, and mopping.
- Comply with all store policies and procedures.
- Provide leadership as team lead in the Store Manager's absence, including staff training and coaching.
- Maintain a safe work atmosphere by following Health & Safety regulations.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Work Environment
- Permanent full-time role based in a typical retail store setting.
- Requires physical exertion such as lifting up to 30 pounds unaided, bending, twisting, pushing, standing, and walking frequently.
- Exposure to dust, fumes, and temperature changes is common.
- Work includes repetitive periods and requires managing interpersonal interactions with guests, donors, vendors, and staff.
- Strict adherence to deadlines is necessary.
Qualifications and Experience
- Completed some high school education.
- At least two years of experience working in retail or warehouse settings.
- Willingness to understand and support The Salvation Army's mission and values.
- Compliance with Occupational Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to pass required background screening and other checks.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities conducive to team collaboration.
- Physical capability for frequent lifting up to 30 lbs without assistance and ability to perform repetitive physical tasks.
- Detail-oriented and attentive to maintaining store quality and appearance.
Compensation
The pay range for this position is approximately $18.50 to $23.13 per hour, with a maximum rate of $27.76. Placement within this range is determined by market factors, internal equity, and applicant qualifications.
