About the Role
The Winkler Group, a national firm based in Charleston, South Carolina and specializing in capital campaigns, strategic planning, and fundraising for nonprofit organizations, is seeking a Senior Writer & Editor to join their team. This role involves collaborating closely with leadership and consultants to transform strategic research and organizational goals into compelling communications that inspire donor generosity and support nonprofit missions.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner strategically with firm leadership, consultants, and clients throughout project lifecycles to craft clear, persuasive communications aligned with fundraising goals and organizational priorities.
- Conduct interviews with nonprofit executives, major donors, volunteers, and stakeholders to gather insights and develop impactful narratives.
- Participate in project planning and strategic discussions to contribute editorial expertise.
- Organize complex and diverse information into concise, captivating content that reflects client vision and mission.
- Support and represent the firm during client interviews, enhancing messaging and identifying themes to improve communication effectiveness.
- Produce and review various deliverables including campaign reports, case statements, strategic plans, executive summaries, presentations, and special writing projects, ensuring consistent quality and professionalism.
- Maintain rigorous quality control on all written work to meet firm standards for clarity, accuracy, organization, and editorial consistency.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field.
- At least five years of professional experience in writing and editing, preferably within nonprofit fundraising or consulting.
- Proven excellence in business writing, editing, interviewing, listening, and synthesizing information.
- Experience in interviewing executives and managing multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate trusted relationships with consultants, leaders, and nonprofit stakeholders.
- Strong portfolio showcasing professional writing capabilities.
- Core skills include strategic thinking, collaboration, project management, attention to detail, accountability, adaptability, initiative, and intellectual curiosity.
Additional Information
This position reports to the Assistant Vice President of Client Services and is classified as full-time exempt. The role is remote or hybrid, offering flexibility in work environment.
The Winkler Group provides a starting salary range of $65,000 to $75,000 annually, with potential bonuses. Benefits include medical, vision, and dental insurance, 401(k) plan, paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays.
