Role overview

The Maxit Tax application team is looking for a Lead Associate, Software Engineering who can contribute to advanced feature development and demonstrate strong software engineering depth. This role requires close collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to interpret business needs and turn them into reliable technical solutions.

The work centers on Java-based development, data analysis, SQL, and shell scripting, with a strong focus on scalable enterprise systems used for cost basis processing and tax reporting in the brokerage and wealth-management space.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze, design, build, and validate multi-tier applications using Spring Boot 2.7+, Spring Batch, Spring REST web services, Spring Security, RabbitMQ, JDBC, XML, JSON, and Oracle-backed systems.
• Design batch applications that are scalable and high-performing, with solid understanding of concurrency and multi-threaded programming.
• Read existing Java code, infer business logic from it, and create accurate code changes and test coverage for issues discovered.
• Prepare technical recommendations and supporting documentation for new development work.
• Write optimized SQL queries and improve existing query performance without changing results.
• Work with Git repositories and contribute to building and improving CI/CD frameworks.
• Use modern AI tools, including agent-based setups and related frameworks, and help bring that capability into the team.
• Work with OCI and support architectural improvements in cloud-based environments.
• Understand MCP agents and apply that knowledge where relevant.
• Use modern messaging and caching patterns involving Kafka and Redis.
• Help convert and unify applications into a Docker-based ecosystem.
• Review code for quality, compliance, and best practices, and give constructive feedback to onshore and offshore colleagues.
• Apply incident and problem management practices and use Jira for ticket tracking.
• Work with Business Analysts, Architects, and Product Owners to assess impact, propose solutions, and implement changes.
• Support modernization efforts by upgrading legacy systems and improving architecture.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 12 years of experience developing Spring/J2EE applications, including Spring Framework, Servlets, and JDBC.
• At least 2 years of experience with relational databases, query writing, and stored procedures, preferably in Oracle.
• Hands-on experience with JMS or other MQ-based messaging services.
• Working knowledge of web technologies such as Angular, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and AJAX.
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs.
• Familiarity with Maven, Jenkins, and Gradle.
• Experience using GitLab for version control.
• Experience managing and troubleshooting cloud applications, preferably on OCI.
• Strong troubleshooting ability for software applications.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
• Self-driven and eager to learn new technologies quickly.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and handling multiple priorities.
• Leadership and mentoring ability within a team setting.

• Familiarity with shell scripting and automation tools.
• Preferred: exposure to DevOps practices.
• Preferred: understanding of tax reporting for wealth-management or stock-trading contexts, including 1099s, 1042s, foreign reporting, and retirement reporting.
