Senior Materials Engineer

Role overview

The Senior Materials Engineer is tasked with assessing, choosing, and validating project materials so they align with the project’s technical requirements, local authority rules, consultant expectations, and statutory approvals. The role also carries responsibility for material testing, certification control, submittal review, and ongoing compliance management across the full project cycle.

Core responsibilities

• Manage all material testing and certification-related activities.
• Make sure every material complies with project specifications, international standards, and legal obligations.
• Check that material test certificates and supporting records are correct, current, and properly maintained.
• Verify that all material submissions meet project and international specification requirements.
• Examine engineering details in material submittals to confirm accuracy and compliance.
• Keep a strong working knowledge of the specifications needed for material approval.
• Identify materials that satisfy requirements in both local and international markets.
• Create and update a central reference library of specification requirements.
• Coordinate and supervise all on-site material testing work.
• Ensure testing is performed in line with specifications and applicable codes.
• Confirm that test certifications are available, valid, and up to date.
• Share weekly progress updates on material status, approval progress, and any delays or risks.
• Assess material needs for potential value engineering and cost-saving improvements.
• Recommend practical material alternatives that improve efficiency and reduce cost without compromising compliance.
• Build strong knowledge of material characteristics and benefits to support better design decisions.
• Prepare and maintain detailed material tracking schedules according to project procedures.
• Ensure shop drawings and as-built drawings are prepared accurately and documented properly.
• Close out material submittals and ensure all completion documents are ready in advance of project handover.
• Support and guide team members through coaching and mentoring to strengthen technical capability.
• Help implement HSE initiatives and take part in safety awareness activities.
• Contribute to incident reporting and resolution in line with company policy and the Integrated Management System (IMS).

Required qualifications and experience

• Strong understanding of local and international specification codes.
• Technical expertise in materials engineering parameters.
• Knowledge of material products, local and international market availability, and compliance standards.
• Ability to build and maintain detailed tracking schedules.
• Strong analytical ability and technical documentation skills.
• Overall experience of 13 years.
• At least 5 years of relevant on-the-job experience.
• Minimum 3 years of GCC experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering.
