Your Role
As the Senior Marketing Manager for Retention, you will lead efforts to enhance profitable customer retention, encourage repeat purchases, and maximize customer lifetime value through diverse buyer-facing marketing channels. You will own the strategy and execution of retention marketing investments across email, catalogs, paid remarketing, loyalty programs, and affiliate/influencer campaigns. This leadership position involves setting retention strategies, allocating budgets, analyzing performance metrics, and guiding marketing spend to optimize contribution margin and customer value. Key requirements include strong analytical skills, proficiency in customer segmentation, and deep expertise in lifecycle marketing.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive growth and financial outcomes related to retention marketing with a focus on repeat revenue and customer loyalty through ecommerce channels.
- Manage retention marketing budgets and efficiency, forecasting monthly to annual retention performance.
- Collaborate with Finance to assess retention using contribution margin, repeat rate, reactivation rate, and lifetime value metrics.
- Oversee cross-channel retention tactics including email, catalog, paid remarketing, affiliate, and influencer channels.
- Design lifecycle marketing strategies focusing on customer segmentation, frequency optimization, and personalized messaging.
- Lead the planning and execution of email and SMS marketing calendars incorporating campaigns and automation flows.
- Strategize buyer catalog circulation and perform ROI evaluations to enhance effectiveness.
- Partner with internal and external teams to manage paid media remarketing efforts.
- Evaluate affiliate and influencer partnerships based on their impact on repeat customers and lifetime value contribution.
- Develop and implement customer segmentation methods such as RFM, LTV tiers, and loyalty segments to optimize engagement.
- Formulate onboarding, cross-sell, win-back, and reactivation initiatives to increase purchase frequency.
- Define retention messaging strategies and collaborate with Brand and Creative teams to ensure personalized, high-performance communications.
- Lead experimentation and incrementality testing across email, catalog, and paid remarketing to validate marketing effectiveness.
- Deliver regular reports detailing retention metrics and provide actionable insights to stakeholders and leadership.
- Manage and mentor a direct report to ensure effective campaign execution and ongoing professional growth.
Qualifications
- Minimum five years of experience in retention, CRM, or performance marketing roles.
- Deep understanding of lifecycle marketing strategies including segmentation, email, SMS, and retention tactics.
- Experience with CRM platforms such as Klaviyo and automated marketing flow management.
- Proven ability to work with external agencies and partners.
- Strong analytical capabilities, including advanced Excel skills and familiarity with GA4 or related analytics tools.
- Experience conducting A/B testing and managing experimentation frameworks.
- Knowledge of direct mail and catalog advertising.
- Financial literacy regarding contribution margin, retention, and lifetime value metrics.
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and lead a team while contributing to a goal-oriented, problem-solving environment.
