Overview

The Senior Lead Estimator (Electrical) is tasked with spearheading the creation of precise and competitive cost estimations, budgets, and bid submissions for electrical works spanning infrastructure, utilities, industrial, and building projects. This role demands thorough analysis of tender documentation, detailed quantity take-offs, cost calculations, assessment of supplier and subcontractor quotes, and identifying commercial risks and opportunities for value engineering. The individual will also contribute to business growth by ensuring technically compliant and cost-effective proposals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development of comprehensive electrical cost estimates, budgets, and tender packages.
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), and tender documents to determine project scope, risks, and potential commercial benefits.
  • Prepare accurate quantity measurements, cost breakdowns, reconciliations, and pricing for MV/LV systems, substations, power distribution, lighting, grounding systems, and related electrical components.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, procurement, and project teams to assemble competitive and precise bids.
  • Procure, assess, and negotiate supplier and subcontractor quotations to ensure best terms.
  • Conduct site inspections to evaluate project conditions, identify risks, and support tender formulation strategies.
  • Review contractors' cost estimates, variation claims, and pricing proposals, offering commercial and technical advice.
  • Lead value engineering efforts aimed at optimizing costs while ensuring project compliance.
  • Maintain and update estimating databases, historical cost data, and current market pricing references.
  • Ensure adherence to contract terms, company policies, quality standards, and keep commercial information confidential.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 13 to 15+ years of professional experience in electrical cost estimation for infrastructure, utilities, industrial, or large-scale building projects.
  • Deep understanding of MV/LV electrical systems, substations, power distribution, lighting, earthing, cable management, and relevant installation practices.
  • Proficiency with estimation software, quantity take-off tools, AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and ERP systems (SAP preferred).
  • Solid knowledge of value engineering principles, cost planning, tendering procedures, FIDIC contract conditions, and commercial risk management.
  • Familiarity with local pricing, labor productivity metrics, subcontractor oversight, and electrical construction techniques.
  • Preferred experience working within the GCC region.
  • MMUP/UPDA professional registration is advantageous.
