Role Overview

The Senior Design Engineer will be pivotal within the Engineering department, leading design, research, prototyping, documentation, estimation, and process improvements. The role requires modifying existing products and processes to boost efficiency and performance. Work will take place across office, workshop, and client sites to achieve optimum outcomes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate throughout New Zealand.
  • Adhere to and champion Amcor's safety values by ensuring all designs comply with safety policies and proactively recommend safety enhancements.
  • Identify customer needs and safety issues, defining project scopes and developing viable solutions.
  • Create detailed equipment and machine manuals through assembling and documenting specifications.
  • Communicate complex technical information effectively to stakeholders with varied expertise levels and lead teams with minimal oversight.
  • Translate conceptual directions and design criteria into tangible designs, quickly sketching complex ideas to drive finalized solutions.
  • Define project mechanical scopes and oversee design coordination, fabrication, installation, and project commencement activities.
  • Lead procurement processes for materials and machinery, innovating methods to improve these processes.
  • Support machine validation, including documentation, testing, safety checks, and completion of checkout lists.
  • Assist in mechanical machine design testing and validation, performing engineering calculations, and reviewing technical plans and specifications.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Associate degree in Mechanical and/or Electrical Design, or a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • Proven experience in machine design for production machinery, including assemblies and entire machines.
  • Minimum of 10 years' relevant engineering experience.
  • Experience with Amcor or comparable flexible packaging design is preferred.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Deep mechanical and electrical design expertise, including drafting methods and standards.
  • Knowledge of machine shop practices, finishes, and geometric tolerancing.
  • Proficiency with 2D/3D CAD software for design and drafting.
