About the Role

Join the Financial Markets Authority as a Senior Adviser within the Market Conduct team, where you will help safeguard financial services in Aotearoa by addressing complex market conduct challenges. Your work will uphold confidence in New Zealand's financial markets by evaluating issues, guiding regulatory responses, and enhancing standards across the sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead detailed inquiries, assessments, and regulatory actions on market conduct concerns.
  • Analyze data and advise on suitable regulatory interventions.
  • Manage regulatory projects including thematic reviews and research efforts.
  • Foster positive relationships with stakeholders and market participants.
  • Share subject matter knowledge within the organisation and partake in broader projects.
  • Mentor colleagues and contribute to team capability building.

Candidate Profile

You may have a background in financial markets, legal, compliance, risk, investigations, policy, enforcement, or similar fields. While expertise in market conduct is advantageous, strong analytical, judgement, and problem-solving skills from comparable regulatory or financial environments are equally valued. You should be able to interpret legislative and regulatory frameworks and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.

  • Experience in analysing complex situations and providing sound advice or decisions.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to apply laws, regulations, and policies effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of influencing stakeholders.
  • Relationship-building and teamwork capabilities.
  • Proactive approach with confidence in handling ambiguous and challenging issues.
  • Interest in expanding knowledge of financial markets regulation.

Additional Information

The salary range for this senior advisory role is between NZD 120,000 and 140,000 annually, plus the 4% KiwiSaver employer contribution.
