Job Overview
The Screener role involves conducting thorough and safe screening of checked baggage to detect any prohibited items or security threats while complying with all regulatory standards. The position requires operating screening machines, documenting results accurately, coordinating with other security personnel, and interacting professionally with passengers to uphold stringent security measures.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete mandatory regulatory training and successfully clear certification attempts.
- Operate X-BIS systems to analyze baggage images and identify dangerous goods, weapons, or prohibited articles according to BCAS, DGCA, and Avsec guidelines.
- Perform manual checks and Explosive Trace Detection tests on flagged baggage.
- Maintain high Threat Image Projection (TIP) scores, demonstrating expertise in image interpretation.
- Adhere strictly to BCAS and DGCA aviation security regulations and document all procedures for audits and inspections.
- Conduct pre-operation checks on all screening equipment to ensure functionality and report any issues promptly.
- Collaborate with CISF, airline staff, and supervisors to resolve suspicious findings and maintain smooth operations.
- Manage time efficiently to complete screenings without causing delays, balancing thoroughness and speed.
- Exemplify professionalism and uphold organizational standards in conduct and workplace behavior.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Educational qualification: minimum high school diploma; bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred.
- Mandatory TSA certification; desirable certifications include BCAS AVSEC basic course, standalone/inline screener certification, and DGCA DGR CAT 12 certification.
- Preference for NCC “B” or “C” certificate holders.
- Fresh candidates or those with up to 2 years’ experience in security screening, ideally in airports.
- Experience with screening equipment operation and knowledge of security protocols beneficial.
- Physical fitness standards including adequate visual acuity (20/60 or better unaided, or 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other with correction), color perception, hearing capability (hearing loss less than 30 dB below 2000 Hz), clear oral communication, mobility without impediments, and a functional sense of smell.
- Professional appearance, civility, sobriety, and courteous behavior toward the public are essential.
