About Ko Taku Reo
Ko Taku Reo is committed to supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of Deaf and hard of hearing children in Aotearoa, helping them develop their identity and providing resources to achieve their academic goals. The organization operates two residential campuses: the Tāmaki Makaurau Campus in Kelston and the Ōtautahi Campus in Sumner. Residential accommodations are offered to students aged 11 to 21 attending school or vocational training, with 24-hour service during term time.
Position Overview
The Residential Team Leader role involves collaborating with senior leaders to manage the daily operations of residential programs for students. The role focuses on assisting students in meeting their social, emotional, and educational needs to foster their independence within Deaf, hearing, and cultural communities. The current vacancy is for a full-time, permanent position at the Ōtautahi Campus.
Working Hours
The role requires working Monday, Thursday, and Friday from 1:30 PM to 10:00 PM, and Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily support addressing students' social and emotional needs.
- Ensure strict adherence to organizational policies and procedures.
- Manage relief staff on a day-to-day basis.
- Maintain accurate and timely daily records.
- Oversee compliance with protocols for student travel and financial matters.
- Engage proactively with students and their families or whanau.
- Coordinate with staff across the organization to optimize student outcomes.
Qualifications and Experience
- Proven leadership experience managing diverse teams.
- Recent experience caring for students in hostel or similar residential settings.
- Familiarity with Deaf culture is preferred; however, an eagerness to learn is essential.
- Strong communication and diplomatic interaction skills.
- Adaptability and capability to lead through change.
- Possession of a valid full driver's license.
- Experience working with youth with multiple needs.
- Knowledge of the Children’s Act and relevant New Zealand legislation is desirable.
