Python Developer

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Python Developer for a remote contract position at YO IT Consulting based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. This role involves contributing your expertise to advance next-generation AI systems by providing high-quality inputs that aid model training, reasoning, and performance enhancement. Prior AI experience is not mandatory; domain expertise in backend development is valued.

Core Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and enhance RESTful and GraphQL endpoints to support scalable API services.
• Implement robust data validation, rigorous error handling, and enforce security best practices within backend systems.
• Manage database changes including migrations, tuning, and schema adjustments as required.
• Conduct active testing of AI-based models using Cursor, delivering detailed feedback through incident reports, bug analysis, and visual evidence.
• Participate in focused 4-day testing cycles to assess the impact of AI models on coding workflows.
• Collaborate continuously with the research team via a Slack channel to share findings and suggest improvements.
• Complete comprehensive post-testing surveys to provide insights on model effectiveness and developer experience.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• A minimum of three years’ experience as a backend developer with strong skills in Python.
• Expertise in developing and maintaining RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
• In-depth knowledge of backend data validation, error handling, and API security mechanisms.
• Practical experience in database schema design, migration processes, and performance optimization.
• Familiarity with AI coding tools and preferably experience with Cursor.
• Excellent communication skills, adept at producing clear, thorough reports of incidents and bugs.
• Ability to excel in a dynamic, confidential, and team-oriented remote setup.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active contributions to open-source projects demonstrated by GitHub activity or similar.
• Background in designing or assessing innovative tooling and developer processes.
• A strong passion for integrating AI developments within software engineering.
