Role Overview
This position is for a Project Data Scientist working on a grant-funded, time-restricted assignment at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY. The candidate will engage in data analysis, pipeline development, and software work within a research framework, supporting the project objectives.
Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related discipline is required.
- 0 to 1 year of relevant experience, including academic, research, or project-driven work, is essential.
- Practical experience with data analysis, managing data pipelines, or software development is necessary.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python, is expected.
- Experience handling structured data formats like CSV and JSON is required.
- The capacity to work both autonomously and as part of a team in a research setting is important.
Preferred Qualifications
- An advanced degree such as a Master’s in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related areas is advantageous.
- Familiarity with knowledge graphs, semantic web technologies, including RDF and SPARQL, is desirable.
- Experience with biomedical or regulatory databases, such as FDA, ClinicalTrials.gov, or NLM, is beneficial.
- Knowledge of Linux operating systems, virtual machine deployment, or container technologies like Docker is an asset.
- An interest in fields like biomedical engineering, health-related data analytics, or AI-assisted data analysis enhances suitability for this role.
