This role will operate across several locations within Greater Manchester including Bolton Magistrates, Manchester Minshull Crown, NMS Redfern Building, Chichester Business Centre, Oldham, Salford, Bury, Manchester Crown Square, Stockport, Manchester Magistrates Court, Atherton, Ashton-under-Lyme, St Helena Mill Bolton, and Wigan Magistrates Court.
Role Summary
The role involves delivering accredited rehabilitation programmes and structured interventions to individuals on community orders or those released under licence from prison. As a Programme Facilitator, you will support offenders—including those involved in domestic abuse, sexual abuse, violent, and acquisitive crimes—to reduce reoffending by addressing harmful behaviours and fostering pro-social attitudes.
Evening work is essential as most programmes occur outside standard hours. Travel to multiple regional sites will be necessary with expenses reimbursed.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver groupwork and individual sessions to people on probation aimed at behaviour change.
- Manage group dynamics and address challenging behaviour to maintain a productive environment.
- Monitor and record participants’ progress, risk levels, and wellbeing throughout interventions.
- Collaborate with courts, criminal justice agencies, and internal probation teams to support sentence management.
- Provide workshops and briefings for probation staff and external stakeholders.
- Use pro-social modelling to encourage positive behavioural change.
Training and Development
The role includes extensive training to ensure competency in programme delivery and understanding intervention theories. A six-month probationary period requiring successful completion of assessments and an assessment centre is mandatory.
Salary and Benefits
The starting salary is £28,064 with additional payments for unsocial hours: 30% extra for evening work and 50% extra for Saturdays. Pay progression is possible annually via a Competency Based Framework, with pay scales adjusted according to Civil Service guidelines.
Eligibility and Immigration
Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK Civil Service. Sponsorship for Skilled Worker visas is not available for new applicants after July 22, 2025, unless the candidate held such a visa continuously before this date.
Application Process
Candidates are required to submit a concise application including responses to behavioural and experience-based questions. The process includes shortlisting, interview, and a facilitation exercise involving a presentation on a provided topic. The selection criteria assess communication, influencing, self-development, and service management behaviours.
Additional Information
This post has no line management duties. Evening and weekend work is a necessity, and travel expenses will be reimbursed. The role aims to help reduce reoffending and support community safety through evidence-based rehabilitative interventions.
