LEO Pharma in Cork, Ireland, is seeking a Process Operator for a 12-month fixed-term engagement. Established with 80 years of expertise, LEO Pharma specializes in delivering high-quality medicines for high-risk patient groups, particularly in critical care and blood clot-related illnesses. The production environment is driven by a culture of simplification, collaboration, and accountability to meet shared objectives. The Process Operator will be an integral part of this team, reporting to the Operations Manager and coordinating closely with the Process Flow Specialist.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain production processes for Heparin intermediates and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) following defined Standard Operating Procedures.
• Ensure full compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) aligned with Irish, EU, and FDA regulations, including hygiene standards, proper garbing, and controlled area protocols.
• Manage inventory accurately by performing all stock transactions within the Stock Control System.
• Adhere to Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental policies, including security regulations, fire safety, use of protective attire, and proper operation of local ventilation and explosion-proof equipment.
• Handle chemicals safely, such as Heparin, Ethanol, Celkate, and Glacial Acetic Acid, following established procedures.
• Control starting materials, intermediates, and APIs through weighing, measuring, labeling, and material reconciliation.
• Complete and maintain comprehensive batch manufacturing records, logs, and in-process control documentation.
• Conduct required sampling as specified in batch records.
• Operate all production machinery, valves, pumps, utilities, and associated equipment.
• Prepare components for autoclaving processes, including filter housings, container closures, pipe fittings, and sampling devices.
• Maintain cleanliness and disinfection of production zones, ensuring areas are free of dust and contaminants and kept in good condition.
• Engage in continuous performance improvement projects.
• Additional operator tasks may involve material receipt and labeling, management of ethanol inventory including tank farm operations and back-loading to tankers, start-up and shut-down of ethanol distillation columns, effluent pH control and calibration, and participation in Lean Manufacturing and waste elimination initiatives.
• Work in a shift-based schedule requiring flexibility; the facility operates 24 hours a day, 5 days a week.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Possession of a Level 5 Certificate or higher in a technical field such as science, chemical or industrial engineering, material science, or a closely related scientific discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Prior work experience in API manufacturing, biotechnology, or bioprocessing settings.
• Experience operating within a GMP-regulated environment.
• Demonstrated commitment to Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, with strong attention to quality and detail.
