Role Overview
The Privacy Engineering Director will lead privacy initiatives within DuckDuckGo’s Privacy Functional Team, addressing intricate, high-stakes challenges related to privacy across products. Responsibilities include spearheading the development of a privacy engineering framework for agentic browsing and designing solutions for private search functionality that maintain stringent privacy standards at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead complex and cross-functional privacy projects from conception through completion.
- Enhance and evolve privacy review and triage processes.
- Develop automation tools to minimize engineering workload related to privacy.
- Mentor and grow privacy engineering talent within the organization.
- Contribute significantly to shaping company-wide privacy strategy.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years' experience managing privacy audits, reviews, or technical privacy programs within consumer-facing companies with over one million users.
- At least 4 years in leadership roles involving privacy engineering infrastructure, data minimization, or comparable privacy technologies.
- Experience as Director, Head of Engineering, or VP with direct hiring and management duties and extensive technical scope.
- Proven autonomy in driving complex, cross-disciplinary projects.
- Strong communicator adept at translating privacy policies into actionable engineering plans amidst competing priorities.
- Track record of improving organizational workflows, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing scalable processes including automation.
- Deep commitment and passion for enhancing online privacy and trust.
Compensation and Benefits
The role compensates $243,800 USD annually plus stock options, with transparent salary structures across similar levels and regions. Company health benefits are restricted to U.S.-based employees. Additional Information
- Remote work with expected commitment of approximately 40 hours per week, no core hours but flexible arrangements.
- Required to participate in video calls and travel twice yearly for company-wide events lasting 4-5 days each.
