Description de l'emploi
Overview
Join His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service as an Operational Support Grade at HMP Bullingdon and contribute to maintaining the smooth and safe operation of the prison. This role offers a combination of desk work and physical activity including tasks like managing deliveries, supervising visitors, conducting security checks, and monitoring surveillance systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct security and search operations at the prison entrance.
- Manage incoming and outgoing deliveries efficiently.
- Supervise visitors to ensure compliance with security protocols.
- Monitor telephone calls and CCTV footage for safety and security purposes.
- Escort vehicles around the prison grounds as required.
- Undertake physical tasks involving lifting, carrying, and walking within the prison premises.
Important Work Conditions
The role requires punctuality for fixed shifts including weekends and nights. While a full UK driving licence with D1 category is mandatory (allowing operation of vehicles with up to 16 passenger seats, 8 meters maximum length, and trailers up to 750kg), owning a vehicle is preferred but not essential. Consider transport options carefully due to the prison's rural location and limited public transport.
Who Should Apply
No formal qualifications are necessary, but effective communication skills, the ability to remain calm in stressful situations, good judgment, common sense, and team spirit are essential qualities for success in this fast-paced environment. While direct prisoner contact is limited, occasional interactions may occur depending on the establishment.
Opportunity and Progression
The role provides valuable insight into prison operations and can act as a stepping stone to other positions within the prison service, including eligibility for the OSG to Prison Officer conversion program.
Benefits and Additional Information
- Starting salary of £29,432 annually.
- Initial 25 days of paid annual leave, increasing to 30 days after 10 years of service (pro-rated).
- 9 additional days of bank, public, and privilege holidays.
- Access to a paid Level 2 apprenticeship in customer service.
- Participation in the Civil Service pension scheme.
- Season ticket loans, retail discounts, Employee Assistance Programme, and Cycle to Work scheme available.
