Description de l'emploi
Position Overview
Join His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service at HMP Isle of Wight as an Operational Support Grade (OSG). Role Responsibilities
- Carry out security duties including searches at the prison entrance.
- Manage incoming deliveries efficiently and supervise visitor access.
- Monitor telephone communications and CCTV systems regularly.
- Escort vehicles within the prison grounds, requiring physical stamina for lifting and walking.
- Perform driving tasks as part of the role, necessitating a current, valid UK driving licence.
- Operate on different shifts including weekends and nights to maintain continuous operations.
Candidate Profile
Applicants do not require formal qualifications but must demonstrate effective communication abilities and the capacity to remain composed under stressful situations. Good judgment, common sense, and a strong cooperative spirit are essential for working successfully as part of the team.
Career Development and Opportunities
The role provides valuable insight into prison operations and can serve as a stepping stone to other positions within the prison service, including eligibility for conversion programs from OSG to Prison Officer.
Compensation and Benefits
- The starting annual salary is £29,432.
- Generous leave entitlement starting at 25 days annually, increasing to 30 days after 10 years of service, plus 9 bank, public, and privilege holidays.

Why Join Us?
This exceptional role offers the chance to contribute positively to public safety and make a difference in lives by supporting vital prison functions. Your interactions with prisoners will be limited compared to prison officers, emphasizing operational support over direct prisoner engagement.
