Role Overview

As an Operational Support Grade (OSG) at HMP Isle of Wight, you will contribute significantly to the smooth, secure running of a busy prison. This varied role combines administrative and physical responsibilities such as conducting security searches at the entrance, managing deliveries, supervising visitors, and monitoring phone calls and CCTV systems. The position involves moving around the prison grounds, escorting vehicles and occasionally lifting or carrying items.

Driving is a fundamental part of this role; therefore, candidates must possess a full and valid UK Driving Licence.

The role requires flexibility to work various shifts, including nights and weekends, to maintain prison operations. While contact with prisoners is limited, occasional interaction may occur depending on circumstances.

Career Progression

This role provides valuable insight into prison operations and can be a stepping stone to other roles within the prison service, including eligibility to apply for the conversion scheme from OSG to Prison Officer.
