Description de l'emploi
About the role
This opportunity is for a Prison Officer position at HMP Highpoint within His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS). The role offers a salary range of £35,746 to £40,003 and focuses on maintaining safety, supporting rehabilitation, and making a constructive difference in people’s lives.
The work is varied and fast-moving, so no two days are the same. As you build experience, there will be chances to progress and develop into different specialisms within the prison service.
What the role involves
Prison officers are responsible for protecting the public while working directly with prisoners in a challenging, unique environment. On any given day, you may take on several different responsibilities, from maintaining order to offering guidance and support.
The job requires you to build professional, positive, and constructive relationships with offenders, including individuals who may be at a very difficult point in their lives.
Teamworking is essential. You will need to work closely with colleagues and act as part of one coordinated team to help keep the prison, prisoners, and staff safe.
You should also be prepared to work a pattern that includes different shifts and weekends.
Who this role suits
This is not a role with a single “type” of background. People from a wide range of careers and life experiences can succeed here, including those who have worked in parenting, teaching, retail, or the armed forces. The key qualities are integrity, self-confidence, empathy, strong communication, and the ability to stay steady under pressure.
Training, progression and rewards
Successful candidates will receive strong training and development support, along with opportunities to progress and specialise in different areas of the service.
Alongside the salary, benefits include 25 days of annual leave each year, childcare vouchers, season ticket loans, retail discounts, an Employee Assistance Programme, and access to the Cycle to Work scheme.
Beyond the practical benefits, the role can offer a strong sense of purpose and achievement through helping people get their lives back on track.
How to apply
If you feel your strengths and values align with this role, you are encouraged to apply.
