Job Summary
The Chesterfield County Police Department is seeking a dedicated Police Service Aide to support law enforcement operations. This full-time role involves diverse duties including responding to citizen calls, assisting in investigations, and maintaining community safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate department vehicles to respond to non-emergency citizen calls.
- Conduct interviews with victims and witnesses to collect information pertinent to investigations.
- Manage and process physical evidence accurately.
- Prepare comprehensive police reports documenting incidents and activities.
- Engage with community members to foster safety and trust.
- Assist motorists who are stranded and manage traffic control for prolonged periods.
- Perform various field operations and additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications and Eligibility
- Minimum age of 18 at application.
- High school diploma or GED by the commencement of academy training.
- Experience in customer service or participation in law enforcement programs such as explorer or cadet initiatives.
- Must hold or qualify for a Virginia driver's license with no more than six demerit points within the past year and no DUI convictions in the past four years.
- Visual acuity to meet binocular vision standards of 20/25 corrected and physical build proportional to height.
- No felony convictions or habitual misdemeanors.
- Clean record with respect to misdemeanor sex offenses and domestic assault charges, including no guilty or no contest pleas.
- Successful completion of a thorough background investigation including polygraph, psychological evaluation, and medical clearance.
- Must pass pre-employment drug tests, FBI background check, and education verification.
- Compliance with random drug and alcohol testing policies required by this critical safety sensitive position.
- Prohibition on illegal drug use and medical marijuana usage; alcohol consumption is forbidden while on duty.
- Eligibility to work in secure environments regulated by CJIS requiring stricter background checks.
- U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency with eligibility for naturalization.
