Role Overview

This permanent full-time position as a Pit Patroller at Rio Tinto's Gudai-Darri iron ore mine offers an excellent benefits package. The roster schedule is FIFO (fly-in fly-out) with 8 days on/6 days off or 7 days on/7 days off from Perth and Busselton. This role calls for experienced individuals to actively contribute to safety and production in a dynamic mining environment by working alongside autonomous machines and the Central Control team.

Key Duties

  • Conduct daily pre-task risk assessments and adhere strictly to Rio Tinto safety protocols while promoting a strong safety culture.
  • Collaborate with production leaders by assisting in Pre-Shift Inspections (PSIs), leading field interactions, participating in Plan of Day and grade control meetings, and maintaining close communication with Central Control throughout shifts.
  • Manage Automated Haulage System (AHS) faults, resolve obstacle detection incidents, monitor fleet operations, identify safety and productivity hazards such as weather and road conditions, and safely escort unequipped vehicles through the mining area.
  • Survey and maintain roads, dumps, and working areas to secure efficient haulage routes; oversee critical courses such as crusher sites, fuel bays, and parking locations ensuring safety demarcations are in place.
  • Support dig unit operators in optimizing spot times, monitor windrow heights, perform post-blast inspections, manage pit signage and marking, assist with hot-seating plans, and transport personnel safely within the pit.
  • Deliver training to team members and actively participate in continuous improvement projects.
