Job description
About the Role
We are seeking a seasoned Performance Engineer to spearhead the strategy and execution of performance testing across a range of systems including API, UI, batch, and event-driven architectures. This role demands a strong focus on assessing distributed and cloud-native applications through diverse performance evaluation techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead the performance engineering approach covering API, UI, batch jobs, and event-driven systems.
- Design and perform load, stress, endurance, scalability, and capacity tests on distributed and cloud-based applications.
- Set non-functional requirements and performance acceptance criteria early in the software development life cycle to enable shift-left testing.
- Analyze overall system performance considering applications, databases, middleware, networks, and external integrations.
- Detect performance bottlenecks and collaborate with engineering teams to optimize and resolve issues.
- Utilize AI and machine learning techniques to improve testing procedures including workload modeling, anomaly detection, predictive capacity, and automated root cause analysis using logs, metrics, and traces.
- Assess, pilot, and standardize the use of AI-powered performance testing and observability tools across enterprise applications.
- Create reusable AI-assisted frameworks that aid in performance analysis, reporting, and deliver actionable insights.
- Define and track key enterprise performance indicators and present clear reports to engineering leadership.
- Contribute to quality governance, promote best practices, and support continuous improvement efforts.
- Act as a subject matter expert and mentor for performance engineering and AI-enabled testing methodologies.
- Influence architectural and design decisions through early assessment of performance risks.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Architecture, Security, DevOps, and Operations teams to mitigate delivery risks.
- Integrate performance testing activities within continuous integration/continuous deployment pipelines for ongoing performance validation.
- Develop and maintain performance tools, automation scripts, dashboards, and related assets.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Over 10 years of experience specializing in performance engineering and non-functional testing domains.
- Proficient hands-on experience with popular performance testing tools such as JMeter, LoadRunner, k6, Gatling, or equivalents.
- Strong comprehension of distributed systems architecture, microservices design, APIs, cloud infrastructure, and networking fundamentals.
- Experience integrating performance testing into CI/CD pipelines for automation.
- Excellent analytical aptitude to interpret complex system performance behaviors.
- Competency in at least one programming or scripting language including C, Java, Python, or JavaScript.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background or experience in the insurance sector.
- Familiarity with capacity planning, resiliency testing, and chaos engineering methodologies.
