The main focus of the role is to deliver accurate, on-time payroll processing for roughly 60 to 80 client accounts, each with different payroll schedules, cycles, and levels of complexity. The role also partners directly with clients to understand their payroll and accounting setups and to suggest improvements that make their processes more efficient.
The ideal candidate brings strong business judgment, an entrepreneurial mindset, and a proactive approach to creating value for both clients and internal teams. This position reports to the Area Manager and works closely with colleagues across the business unit, branch, and corporate office.
Key responsibilities
- Handle high-volume, accurate on-cycle and off-cycle payroll processing for multiple client organizations, covering more than 800 employees.
- Build expertise in new-client onboarding, BBSI payroll tools, Salesforce CRM, timekeeping systems, and HRIS platforms, and use system knowledge to improve outcomes for clients and the business unit.
- Provide in-person training for clients on payroll processes, payroll software, and relevant system features and functions.
- Develop deep familiarity with client data and payroll complexity, including employee turnover, changing headcount, time and attendance, payroll bridge creation, import/export needs, prevailing wage work, job costing, certified payroll, and standard or custom reporting.
Experience and qualifications
- At least 5 years of payroll experience, preferably in a demanding, fast-moving, multi-client environment.
- Strong focus on customer service and client support.
- Proven ability to improve processes and streamline workflows in a previous role or department.
- Background as a bookkeeper or accountant is preferred.
- Self-motivated attitude with the drive to support business owners and contribute to company success.
- Working knowledge of wage and hour regulations and wage taxability.
- Helpful exposure to workers' compensation claims administration.
- Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of an organization.
- Professional presentation, along with strong spoken and written communication skills.
- Excellent time management and the ability to work cooperatively with little supervision.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office tools, especially Outlook, Excel, and Word; experience with CRM systems, Citrix, and HRP software is a plus.
- Associate degree preferred; an advanced degree is an added advantage.
- CPP or FPC certification is strongly preferred.
- About 10% travel is required for local client visits and on-site training within 50 miles of the office.
Compensation and benefits
The starting pay range for this role is $30.00 to $34.00 per hour. Starting pay may vary depending on geography, skills, education, experience, certifications, and other candidate qualifications. The position is also eligible for incentive pay under the company plan.

Paid time off
Paid leave includes 40 hours of sick time per year, with any additional front-loading, accrual, or state/regional adjustments handled according to applicable requirements. Vacation accrues up to 80 hours in year one, up to 120 hours in years two through four, and up to 160 hours starting in the fifth year.
