About the Role
We are seeking a talented Motion Designer to join our on-site team in San Francisco. You will contribute across all divisions of Story Co, including documentary-style films, client projects, YouTube series, and more. Your role involves creating dynamic visual content and infusing energy into projects that adhere to high-quality standards.
You will master various styles ranging from sleek, polished brand visuals to raw, expressive designs based on project requirements. This opportunity is ideal for someone passionate about expanding their skill set and embracing diverse creative challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and animate motion graphics in various formats and styles.
- Execute briefs developed by directors and producers, adding personal creative touches when appropriate.
- Collaborate closely with editors and VFX teams to ensure seamless integration of motion elements into final cuts.
- Manage organization of your files and oversee the delivery process.
- Occasionally engage with clients in partnership with producers and other team members.

- Possess a strong design sense adaptable to multiple styles including branding, documentary, narrative, and commercial work.
- Comfortable with an iterative design process, improving work until it meets expectations.
- Ability to deliver quality work under tight deadlines.

- Receptive to feedback and able to apply revisions promptly and effectively.
- Confident in advocating for creative choices to enhance project outcomes.

We value human creativity and do not see AI as a replacement for genuine work. However, we utilize AI tools appropriately in our pipeline to assist in storyboarding, some motion and visual effects elements, and workflow facilitation where beneficial.
Role Requirements
- A robust portfolio demonstrating expertise in motion design across diverse styles.
- Proficiency in After Effects is mandatory; skills in Cinema 4D, Blender, or compositing are highly advantageous.
- Ability to perform and complete a paid test project during the recruitment process.
- Must be located in or willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area.
