Medical Science Liaison

Role overview

AltaThera Pharmaceuticals is hiring a Medical Science Liaison to support U.S. medical affairs activities for its products. In this role, you will build and strengthen scientific relationships with key opinion leaders and healthcare professionals, share accurate and balanced medical information, and help carry field insights back to the organization. The position is based in the United States and requires on-site work with significant domestic travel.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain peer-to-peer scientific relationships with key opinion leaders and healthcare providers in the relevant therapeutic area.
• Create and carry out territory plans that align with U.S. Medical Affairs priorities.
• Capture clinical questions, research feedback, and field insights from KOLs and route them to the right internal teams.
• Support medical education activities for HCPs, including institutional presentations, investigator meetings, national conferences, advisory boards, and regional programs.
• Assist with scientific work such as congress support, advisory board participation, and sales training initiatives.
• Work collaboratively and compliantly with sales, marketing, and clinical research teams.
• Help ensure that scientific communications remain accurate, objective, and balanced.

Requirements and qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience in cardiology or electrophysiology are required.
• Hospital-system experience is required.
• At least 2 years of prior Medical Science Liaison experience are required.
• An advanced degree in medical or bioscience fields such as M.D., PhD, PharmD, or DNP is preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Strong grasp of the company’s products, commercialization approach, competitive landscape, and the broader pharmaceutical industry.
• Up-to-date understanding of developments in the target therapeutic area.
• Solid scientific foundation with knowledge of clinical development, investigator-initiated studies, and biostatistics.
• Ability to interpret scientific and clinical data and present findings clearly.
• Working knowledge of OPDP promotional rules, pharmaceutical promotion standards, and U.S. safety reporting and surveillance expectations.
• Experience using secondary data sources.
• Confident user of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Strong written, verbal, presentation, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
• Familiarity with biostatistics and clinical study operations/execution is needed.

Additional information

• The role involves 60% to 70% domestic travel.
• Candidates must live near a major airport.
• Applicants must currently reside in a state in the eastern half of the United States.
• Supervisory responsibility: none.
• Physical/work condition: extended periods of sitting and computer-based work.

Preferred experience

• Pediatric experience is preferred.
